romance- Dear John

 Director – Lasse Hallström
 Runtime – 105 mins

Starring – Channing Tatum, Amanda Seyfried ‘Dear John’ is an incredible love story staring two very famous actors Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried. These characters are extremely well known to the younger generation; they have4 been in fantastic films such as Mamma Mia and Magic mike. They are both extremely charismatic and charming which entices a certain young audience.
The scene of the film has a close up shot of Channing looking away from the camera looking into the distance and the group of friends walk behind him. This creates his character that he is lonely and relaxed however seems envious of the company. When Amanda Siefried’s bag gets pushed in there is a heroic long shot of Channing jumping of the dock. The shot then changes as he is underwater, it is fairly dark which creates an eary atmosphere.  He then walks out on to the beach and re-enacts a bay watch type scenario, this is the first time the two characters meet and there is instant chemistry. This ‘love at first sight’ image that is presented is very appealing to the audience as it is known as there ideal set up for many young people, especially with the extremely good looking Channing.  It has very calming music in the back ground which increases the dreamy mood when the handsome muscular character saves the day. There is also screams from Amanda as the bag falls presenting the heroine persona being scared and over dramatic. Also the boy who dropped it shouts and attempts to get it back but doesn’t get there in time. This gives the idea that Channing is better than other men.

This film in a 12A certificate which does allow some sexual natures however as a 12A does not include the intense love scenes that some other romances have which can attract a slightly older audience. However I would say the age target could range from 12- 18 because of the actors/actresses that appear in many other films.
