Evaluation 6

To create a very professional and effective film it need to have a good quality camera with a good editing software. The camcorder was very good quality to allow the film to look clear, and also enhance to level of sophistication. The audience would prefer to watch a film that looks as close to real life as possible and therefore it would help to create a look that is just like the eye sight.
Due to the high definition of the camera and the settings on the camera, the shots appeared clear. However I shot some of the opening shots on an iPhone when I spotted good establishing shots on the way to school. This therefore meant that it had a less clear image and it was slightly more pixallated. Another problem we occurred with the compatibility of the camera to the editing software was the difference in color, despite remaining in the same location. This was disappointing because despite how precisely i made the cut, the color was still disorientated which made it look like we changed something, affecting the theme of continuity.

I decided to use an extremely good editing software- Adobe Premiere Pro. I was going to use Premiere Elements however it believe that Pro has a more sophisticated and advanced software and can allow me to have freedom to use. At the beginning of the course I was oblivious to this software and really struggled to come to terms with it and how it works. It took some time, but when i got the hang of I began to experiment with editing tools and techniques.

Another problem i had in the process of editing this opening was when i tried to make the conversation flow around the table. I discovered that it was very effective to separate the audio from the picture and make it so the shot didn't just start when the dialogue start. This meant to make the picture linger for longer in order to make it flow well and look less bitty. i also believed it made it look like a real film as the conversation didn't look awkward or staged.

I have added annotations to the original film to talk about the conventional features of the genre. This allows the audience to see my thinking behind the shots and editing.  

Evaluation 4

This is the target audience for my film- I have chose to address the audience to a 14-18 age group. this is roughly the same as Taken which was the inspiration for this film. Any younger than this age range would mean that the appreciation of the film would be decreased, because they do not understand the plot, along with the real-life scenarios we are creating. An obvious factor for not having a target audience of any younger would be because of the disturbing atmosphere we portray. However, on average, any older than the age range we have given may not understand as to why the plot is the way it is and would lead to a very critical audience because they have grown up in a different era, surrounded with different genres of films, which have populated the film industry.

The teen-aged audience would be expected to have an interest in popular culture and listen to the modern day popular music such as song in the top ten music charts. This made me think that it may be quite effective to have some well known youth pop songs to allow the audience to connect with it. This could also mean that they film industry will earn  more money from record sales. This could mean that the company- Ripple Film- could be vertically integrated allowing money not being wasted on buying companies.

Evaluation 3

When thinking about suitable film institutions to represent my opening two minutes, along with my own institutions, I have chosen to research some institutions which maybe are not so well known. I believe that many people will just choose a world famous company because they are well known for representing popular films and although this would probably be the easier option, I have chosen to put a bit more thought into it to see if I can find anything a bit more relevant to my opening.

Another institution I researched was Phase 4 Films which produced a film called Eden which is based on a true story of a teenage girl who is abducted and sold for prostitution. I had never heard of this company before, but found it from looking at the film Eden which is the last film i watched  in the hope for inspiration. I think that this company would be a good choice for me as they produce low budget films which mean our film will be more realistic than if I choose a larger company and I know that they have produced films of a similar genre and theme to mine which would help enforce the realism of my film and make it seem a relevant choice.

Evaluation 2

The character played by Megan i decided to base around the daughter in award winning action film- Taken, in fact a lot of the content of my film was inspired by this film. there are many moments in the film where these two actors have similar qualities and characteristics. These photos have both girls on the phone with a concerned look on their faces. As The camera angle is an close up on the face, the emotion is very clear allowing the audience to feel connected and feel empathy for them. 

Another reason why I chose to use this similar shot is because the use of the suspicious phone call creates the element of confusion and suspicion on the audience.  Despite both the protagonists looking slightly different and wearing different clothing, they both exert the same message for young people. They are both in the same age category which are unaware of the dangers which may seem too obvious for them to notice. Both the protagonists are attractive and feeble suggesting a danger which is about to approach. There facial expiations show the fear and tense atmosphere which conforms to the stereotype of the female protagonist. They are perceived as being weak, vulnerable and naive and therefore their faces conform to this. They both have a white IPhone which represents the modern day technology used by teenage girls.

Evaluation 1

The opening of this film shows some establishing shots with the title coming in from the left and exiting to right. The light coming behind the building is very bright and uncomfortable which adds too the piercing threatening music. This is a conventional opening as it doesn't give anything away about the film but it starts the film with suspense and tension. I wanted to leave the identification of the characters until later on so that the audience are constantly wanting more to happen.

I have chosen several shots such as this one on the right that give the audience an idea of the setting/location. this allows them to connect with the characters and they get an understanding of their lifestyle. It is set in an ordinary road in England which is effective as it makes the scenario seem real and naturalistic. However films such as Taken contrasts this as its based on a time where they are in n a foreign country which makes the scenario seem dangerous and scary for the young girl. i still believe the location i chose has a daunting affect as the audience will connect with it.                                 

The two characters are very typical girls, the wear ordinary make-up, fashionable clothes and general teen-aged stereotypical appearance. I wanted them to be extremely normal and innocent so that the attack would be unexpected and surprising for the audience. in the scene with them walking they are chatting and laughing showing the naivety to the upcoming event. this conforms to the conventions of a kidnapping film- the shots are observed showing someone is watching the normal looking girls. The audience enjoy knowing more that the characters do. 

This observational shot is use din order to give the effect that the girls are being watched and something is going to happen too them. this shot from the window also makes them look extremely small and childish- this is because of the the high angle shot that show the power of the person watching. this then gives the characters empathy from the audience. This type of shot is often used and is extremely effective is 'Taken' style films. I also moved the camera around slightly to give the effect that the camera is the person watching them. 

                                                                          This shot introduces the characters to the opening and allows the audience to be part of there conversation as it is excluded and personal. This is a conventional shot as is establishes the setting and the characters and allows the audience to understand the mood, environment and also gives an anticlimax from the previous shot where the girl gets taken. i also included techno type music which creates a upbeat type atmosphere that sets up a very different environment from previous scenes.

I added This special effect to this shot as it creates an observational view of the scenario. I also attempted to create a CCTV effect which i found by looking up tutorials on YouTube. This effect is extremely common on films like this as i gives an element of seriousness and control over whats happening and makes the audience empathize with the characters die to their lack or privacy. I zoomed in which creates a bury image of the girls which in fact adds to this effect as it cancels out the personal effect and makes them look like objects or just victims.

This action shot is very fast and sudden creating an unexpected effect. The hand grabs her from the side of the face the drags it left while the camera stays static revealing the empty street behind her. The audience are not aware of the friends reaction however the following shot show a contradicting shot of her round the table with her family. this juxtaposition want to know the outcome of the incident. The genre of an action film as it has an action shot which therefore conforms to the stereotype on a conventional film.
This shows the teenagers bedroom, it symbolizes the kind of teenager that she is like. it also allows the young audience to connect with her as they can see aspects from the generation they live in. The technology and modern experiment in the room also shows that she is well off, which can show a vulnerable side to her as she is oblivious to the dangers of the outside world. this is a very conventional for the action thriller.
